Clinics
Adult Immunisations
We advise all adults that they should be protected against tetanus. For immunised
adults who have received five doses, either in childhood or adulthood, booster
doses are not recommended.
There is a travel vaccination clinic held twice a month. A pre-travel risk
assessment form should be completed prior to the appointment. Please make an
appointment at least four weeks before your vacation.
Every October, we offer a flu vaccination to all our patients aged over 65,
plus those “at risk” patients with a history of asthma, diabetes,
heart or kidney disease. Appointments are made with the practice nurse for this
injection.
All patients over 65 years are offered a pneumonia vaccination. This is also
recommended for patients suffering from any of the conditions shown below. Please
contact the surgery to make an appointment with the practice nurse for this vaccination.
Asplenia or severe dysfunction of the spleen, including homozygous sickle
cell disease and coeliac syndrome.
Chronic renal disease or nephrotic syndrome.
Immunodeficiency or immunosuppression due to disease or treatment including HIV
infection at all stages.
Chronic heart disease.
Chronic lung disease.
Chronic liver disease including cirrhosis.
Diabetes mellitus.
Family Planning
Contraceptive advice is confidential and available to people of any age during
ordinary surgery hours. Our practice nurses offer a comprehensive service.
Emergency contraception is also available after discussion with a GP or nurse.
Dr Burman-Roy has a special interest in family planning and runs a weekly
coil-fitting clinic.
Young Persons Clinic
Dr Burman-Roy and a practice nurse run a weekly teenage sexual health clinic
on Tuesday afternoons between 3.30 - 6.30pm. This is open to all teenagers regardless
of where they are registered. The clinic offers contraception information, support
and advice on STIs. There is no need to book an appointment - just turn up. All
consultations are confidential.
Minor Surgery
Our practice is fortunate to have its own qualified surgeon - Dr Turner.
He performs weekly operating sessions for minor surgical procedures. Please make
an appointment to see Dr Turner first to discuss whether the operation is necessary
and to arrange an appointment.
Special Purpose Clinics
Antenatal Clinic
The midwives hold antenatal clinics in the surgery by appointment only.
Booking-in appointments are on Monday afternoons and routine follow-ups on
Tuesday afternoons.
Asthma, Diabetes And Heart Disease
Our practice nurses have special skills in monitoring these conditions. If
you suffer from one of these you can make an appointment with the practice nurse
to discuss your management.

Non-NHS Services
Certain services provided by your doctor are not covered by the NHS, and
you will be asked to pay a fee. These include:
• HGV and PSV medicals
• Elderly drivers
• Pre-employment medicals
• Passports
• Private health insurance claim forms
• Diving medicals
• Insurance medicals (fee normally paid by the insurance company)
• Photo-card driving licence applications
• Certain holiday vaccinations and prescriptions
• Sick certificates to confirm incapacity for work lasting less than one
week
Please note that DSS certificates (no charge) can only be issued when an
illness lasts longer than one week. For shorter periods you should obtain a self-certification
form (SC2) from your employer.
It is not vital to see the doctor at the beginning of an illness just to
obtain a certificate, since these can be backdated if necessary.
